Grosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2002

Grosset Semillon Sauvignon BlancGrosset Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2002

As with the rieslings, the excellent vintage in 2002 has produced an outstanding example of this blend. It is certain to be considered one of the very best examples of this style in the country. The nose has lifted perfumes of gooseberries and lychees, while the palate is fresh, vibrant, pristine and intense with concentrated ripe lychees, tangy gooseberries, some grassiness and spicy, minerally flavours. As in the best years, the structure is tight and the wine has impressive finesse and taut, racy acidity.

I know it ought to be one of Jeffrey Grosset’s superb Rieslings to gain selection; it just happened this way. Lively, pristine aromas of gooseberry and green apple, introduce a wine which literally dances on the tongue through to a long finish. All class.  96 points

Very pale, bright green. Pungent, grassy and lightly spicy aromas of melon and gooseberry. Forward and fleshy on entry, then finishes tight and steely, with lemony acidity giving the wine a slight austerity.
