Grosset Alea Riesling 2019

This has powerful aromatics – enticing lemon, lime blossom, with dried herb notes and hints of shaley minerality. Its concentration and underlying power give it the appearance of having an additional layer of flavour – pure intense lime juice at its core – with just a hint of sweetness giving it its distinctive character. The wine’s pristine bracing acidity dominates the finish which is taut, long and dry.

“Inspired by the best dry Rieslings of Europe, Alea is produced in the international style, made to the Grosset standard. From the Rockwood vineyard in Watervale where the likeness to European fruit was first noticed in 2007, this wine offers great versatility; people, food, situations.”

Reviews:

Tyson Stelzer, WBM, Nov/Dec 2019
The key to this wine has never been its sweetness, but rather its citrus drive, spicy concentration and enduring acidity, and this has never been more pronounced than in the 2019 season, a harvest of larger than life intensity and structure, promising great potential. 94 Points.

Nick Butler, The Real Review, 26th September 2019
It’s overt and friendly – lime cordial, lemon tart, more than a tease of stone fruit.  A weighty and concentrated palate – grapey and built around the balancing of sugar and acid.  Persistent and set to blossom further. 95 Points.
